Tuesday – Day 2 of Camp!

Jul 22, 2026 | 7 comments

Hello all nervous parents,

You will be happy to hear that your kids spent yet more of your money at yet another grocery store on yet more candy and soda (Abram bought a 12-pack of Mountain Dew-Baja Blast and Caden ate 7 bags/boxes of candy and a partridge and a pear tree).

The day opened with everybody waking up to the beautiful sight of the sun (much credited to the prayer from Jenn Rodgers yesterday). We then were able to admire the sun again with devotional time where we got to admire God’s creation in this blessed environment.

After the campers arrived, we got started with the two skills groups; robotics/coding, along with improv/skit challenge. Robotics/coding was led by Isaac, Riley, and Cooper, and was enjoyed by many eager Alaskan students. Challenges included driving a Lego robot through a timed maze with an Xbox controller and a maze that you finish by coding a Lego robot. The skit challenge was led by Alyssa, Caden, Amana, and Jason, and had teams create skits with different elements drawn from a hat.

Our lunchtime included pounding on the tables, along with a lot of chicken nuggets and carrots. Following that was our worship time where we saw God’s gracefulness fill the hearts of the young Alaskan children.

Our large group game today was kiddie pool kickball (with slip-and-slides as the basepaths) and was led by Silas, Isaac, Jason, and Abram. We did this for almost double the scheduled time, and the kids had a blast getting all soapy and sliding to their heart’s content.

After the campers left, we enjoyed free time and played pickleball in the barn. Closing out the night, we had our campfire where we did life stories, prayers, and highlights from the day.

We continue to see God’s gracefulness and goodness working in us each and every day as we continue to serve this community. We hope everybody has a good week and we want to tell Wesley that he won’t be getting his sweatshirt back anytime soon, even with his good manners (comments from yesterday).

Grant’s cup of awesomeness counter: 20

Best,
Silas, Isaac, and Grant

P.s. Grant, I hope to see the cup of awesomeness reach at least 30 by Saturday! Haha.

We love getting these updates, and are really glad to hear how much fun the Alaskan kids are having learning from you! It looks like your hard work preparing over the past few months has really paid off! It’s great to hear about all the games and time you’re having together as a team, too. Praying for continued sunshine for you!

“Man shall not live on bread alone…” Sounds like you all (and Caden!) are finding that to be true in Alaska! Also “…but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” Matthew 4:4. Thanks for spending time on these posts to give us a glimpse of the food, fun, and formation you all are experiencing. “Taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” Pslam 34:8. – Melissa & Bryan (Caden’s parents)

It’d be a shame if some Baja blast made it into Grant’s cup of awesomeness…

Love the activities you all came up with for today! Great work, team!
