Tuesday: Day Camp Day 2 – Leis for Days

Jul 16, 2025 | 5 comments

Day Two of Day Camp is complete! After a delicious breakfast of French toast and sausage patties, we headed outside in anticipation of the campers’ arrival. The weather was cloudy and damp at first, but eventually the sun broke through and it was sunny and warm.

Camp began with playing some goofy team games led by Director Jim from Eaglecrest! Balloon and garbage bag relays had the campers and our students bonding in silly ways, as we raced for earning first in line for lunch. (Those chicken nuggets were worth it, too!)
Our students led two new skills clubs and a large group game today. Improv was led by Cooper, Allison, Ruby B., Luke, and Sofi. Football Skills was led by Oliver, Chloe, January, Anaya and Jude. The group game was an adapted version of a game our students played at the MSM Lock-In last fall and was led by Bryson, Norah, Luke, January, and Anaya. The clubs took place before lunch, and the game was the last activity of the day.

For Football Skills, we hosted a 5v5 flag football game for students who wanted to play! We heard from two Alaska campers that they never get a chance to scrimmage, and they really enjoyed the competitive play and scored many touchdowns! For Improv Skills, the students circled up for Ruby B. to lead them in the game of Face Ace, where they have to freeze with a certain emotion on their face. They were great at this! And they looked impressive in the fun costumes we brought! Then Luke led them in the game of What Are You Doing? Here, the students are challenged to do one thing while saying they are doing another, all with a fun flair of creativity. The final game had Cooper leading 3-minute movies, and the Blackhawk team gave an example with a hilarious adoption of The Little Mermaid. The day campers then followed with their own renditions of Frozen and Toy Story.

The group game had students trying to solve a mystery during the game play… the story was that everyone was on a flight to Hawaii and it was detoured to Alaska, causing everyone to have to figure out how to buy a new plane ticket to get to the Hawaiian luau! Grass skirts, leis, dances, push-ups, trivia, and sunglasses… The campers ran and laughed and were chased by “yetis”, all in the journey to finding a ticket! It was fun, crazy, and unique.

Our day winded down with a walk to the General Store and Taco Tuesday for dinner. The local church’s youth group is hosted at Eaglecrest on Tuesday nights, so we played 9-Square and volleyball with them after dinner. To end our day, we went on a 2-mile walk down the road and explored a stream. We adventured across and played in the mud 🙂 This was definitely a highlight of the day for a lot of us!

Last night, Jim warned us that they call Tuesday “Tired Tuesday” because it is the day groups are usually impacted the most by the time change… He wasn’t wrong, but we pushed through and our students did so well!  Tomorrow is our “day off” and we explore Hatcher’s Pass and adventure! We can’t wait to share more with you tomorrow!!

Fun facts:

  • Norah tried Baja Blast for the first time and liked it
  • The taco meat was beef AND moose!! So… meef? Boose?
  • 14 brand new students from the community have attended camp this week! Eaglecrest people are stoked and incredibly encouraged by this!
