Our entire team and all of our bags arrived at camp late Saturday night although you wouldn’t know how late it was with how light it still was out!
Travel went smoothly and we enjoyed some beautiful views of mountains and glaciers from the plane. Before we took off, several students checked in with the pilots to verify the flight plan. When we landed in Anchorage we stopped for a quick McDonald’s run before meeting up with Jim, the Director of Eaglecrest and heading to Sutton. After a chatty plane ride, it was a relatively quiet bus ride to camp. We enjoyed our first views of Alaska and headed to bed for a good night’s sleep.

WORLD CUP STUFF YOU MISSED (if you care):
– The third-place game was an entertaining mess. England 6, France 4.
– Jude Bellingham is a very handsome man.
– The team that played better soccer won the final, and, it was the kind of game only a person who already liked soccer could enjoy watching.
– The first-ever WC Final halftime show was good candy! Shakira! Justin Bieber! BTS!!! The Muppets!!!! (Also Madonna and Coldplay for us old-timers.)
– ¡España! Tooooomaaaaaaa.
WORLD CUP STUFF ANTHONY MISSED (these are niche details – no need to read these out loud):
– Argentina had ZERO shots attempted in regulation, and zero shots on goal for the whole game. They basically just played defense until Spain scored.
– Spain created many chances. Argentina keeper made eleven saves. Between a couple chances where they could’ve finished better and a couple goals (rightly) disallowed by minor fouls or someone’s shoulder being offside, it felt like a 3-0 game.
– Highlights worth rewatching after this week include the Enzo Fernández second yellow card (second half injury time) and the winning goal (particularly the passes that made it possible – esp. Nico Williams’ assist, headed back from the end line when the ball was on its way out).
– Mbappe earned the Golden Boot after two goals in the third-place game. All the other individual awards went to Spanish players – which seemed a bit like overkill, but taken separately, each of them was well-deserved (Rodri for Golden Ball, Unai Simón for Golden Gloves, Pau Cubarsí as the best young player in the tournament).
Hahahahaha! The Rodgers Family knows never to be short on snacks. Silas, I hope you’re sharing your food bounty with friends! Pics from airplane are gorgeous!! Praying for you guys as you start ministry to the Sutton kids today. And may God bring you some sunshine!
