Excursion Day: It was a Butte!

Jul 13, 2023 | 2 comments

Wednesday is a day off at camp. We had the opportunity to spend some quality time as a group without the campers. Our morning was spent with the Eaglecrest team on a fantastic trail on the Butte. We drove South of Palmer, about 35 minutes from camp. The hike itself was a strenuous hike just about straight up a hill.

While the journey was exhausting, our team bonded while meeting an adorable three-legged dog, Abby. At the top of the hike, you could see the mountains all around, in every direction. You could see the Knik glacier in the distance as well as its former pathway through Palmer.

After we got back down from the Butte, we headed back to camp for games. After a while, we drove to Palmer to get ice cream at a local parlor called The Big Dipper. We then made a pit stop at a gas station to pick up a few snacks and souvenirs, and headed out to dinner at The Noisy Goose. There were a lot of interesting signs with funny sayings on the walls. We were able to bond with our teammates and enjoy the delicious food.

We then got back to camp and hung out around the campfire and shared some life stories. We then had some free time, played some games before calling it a night.  What a great day to enjoy God’s creation and each other!

Praying from Roman’s 12:2 “Be not conformed by the world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind that may prove what is good and acceptable and the perfect will of God.” May you keep your heart and mind fixed on Christ. Thank you Lord for this opportunity that you have given this group to learn about you, for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, for the Scripture to study. Lord the world is full of distractions to take attention away from you. Guard the minds and hearts of these students from the things of the world. May they have your full armor. Thank you that these students have taken an interest in you doing your will. May you continue to expose them to opportunities to learn and grow in you. May the Holy Spirit keep them on the right path and stir up a desire to be your light in the world.
