Alaska Middle School GO Team

Saturday/Sunday: Anchorage and Airports

Jul 20, 2025

Throughout our week in Alaska serving and growing at Eaglecrest, so many memories were made! We were all asked at the Friday night campfire to describe our week in three words or less. Here are some of the ways we described our time… relational, life changing, life to the fullest, peaceful, make the most of every opportunity, growth, busy, relationships, spiritual, not falling down a mountain, fun, cultural, creative, impactful…

In addition to sharing the impact and beauty that this week had on our lives, we also did a little, silly award ceremony! Please enjoy the following “Plate Awards” (and feel free to ask your student for the reasons/stories behind them!)

We said goodbye to Eaglecrest at 11 a.m. on Saturday and headed into Anchorage for our final hours in Alaska. The 24 of us split into groups and adventured from shop to shop buying souvenirs and making final memories. One of the groups went on a horse-drawn carriage ride around downtown Anchorage and got to feed carrots to the horses, Charlie and Lucky! Everyone bought at least one thing, whether for themselves or someone else, and did a mini show-and-tell at a fun little ice cream shop called Wild Scoops.

After souvenir shopping, we feasted on delicious pizza at Moose’s Tooth, which we all highly recommend! Director Jim then dropped us off at the airport in Anchorage and we began our long journey home…

The bus ride back was quiet. Some were sleeping. Others were having conversation in hushed tones, already reminiscing about the week, with a few random bursts of laughter here and there.

It has been an absolutely beautiful, fun, and impactful week for both the students and leaders! Many of us already miss the mountains and the community we made at Eaglecrest, hoping and dreaming of going back again. Thank you for all the support you have given to these 15 adventurous, talented, loving students and the 9 caring, crazy, exhausted leaders.

Fun facts:
  • Norah finally saw a moose! (dead, stuffed, and in the airport atrium)
  • While souvenir shopping, some of us tried on a vest at Canada Goose that cost $2,000!
  • Some of us ate reindeer meat today! (Don’t worry, it wasn’t Rudolph)
