Hello all – it’s Kelsey writing to you this morning. The time change is treating us well – a 7:30am wake-up call is significantly easier for all when it feels like 10:30am! We’ve spent the morning with an extended devotional time to kick-off our week. It was awesome, refreshing, and not even too chilly!
Today we read text and explored questions about having a servant’s heart. One of the most interesting questions (from my perspective) that we had the chance to ponder was “What is the purpose of serving others? What effect do you expect or hope that your service has on your own heart?” This is my third year on this trip, and each year has shaped me in different ways. Personally, I have started to see service as a way to practice humility – to serve well requires me to be truly others focused, rather than me-focused. To serve well means to share Christ’s love without letting myself get in the way.
I am confident that this next week is going to be a ton of fun, and I am also sure that it will grow and stretch each of our team members. We will each experience moments where we are tired, or where we’d rather just focus on ourselves. I pray that we can remember the example that Christ set for us, and that we can take to heart the wisdom Paul shared with the Philippians “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4).
Now we’re off to church and looking forward to our glacier hike this afternoon! Thanks for the prayers all, and we’ll check-in again soon!
Thanks for the update. Hope you all enjoyed viewing the glacier.
Have a wonderful week. God be with you on this exciting adventure.
We’re cheering and praying for you from way down here. May the word become real in your hearts through the works he has prepared in advance for you to do! (Eph 2:10)
Love this. Can’t wait to see how others are shaped by this week’s trip, as well!!! Prayers as each of you discover more about your walk with Christ.
